DC Comics fans will have to wait until 2018 for the “Aquaman” stand alone film to see Jason Momoa as the seafaring superhero in a story all his own, but that doesn’t mean its director, James Wan, can’t give us a quick look at the set.

The director tweeted Tuesday evening the first shot on day one of filming “Ahab” — the code name for “Aquaman.” The view looks like it’s inside a submarine, though it’s not clear if it’s present day or during a war where submarines were key.

No actors are present in the photo, but fingers crossed that Wan will share more behind-the-scenes images as they continue to film.

In addition to Momoa, the star-filled cast includes Amber Heard as Mera – Queen of Atlantis, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Willem Dafoe as Vulko and Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus.

Aquaman’s family members will include Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother, Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father, and Patrick Wilson as Aquaman’s half-brother Orm Marius, also known as Ocean Master.

“Aquaman” hits theaters on Dec. 21, 2018, but fans can see the King of the Seven Seas in “Justice League” this year on November 17 in the US and UK and on November 16 in Australia.
